Would you believe that Kincardine is ranked as one of the top surfing destinations in Canada? Well, it is, and we attract avid surfers from across the country yearning to be challenged by our wave action!
Our beaches can see waves over ten feet tall, making it the ideal spot for the adventure seekers without access to an ocean view. The combination of deep waters, bottom formation, and strong winds - especially from the NW - makes Kincardine’s Station Beach a must visit for lake surfing.
It’s what attracted young surfing enthusiast and entrepreneur Tarah Coates to Lakeside Downtown Kincardine in 2017 and lead to her decision to open Surfsup, one of two surf shops in town (the other being West Shore Clothing and Surf Shop).
Surfsup carries a wide range of products including surf and paddle boards, skateboards and long boards, clothing and accessories. It emphasizes environmentally friendly and sustainable product lines and the store has incorporated many recycled materials in its own design and construction.
Tarah is committed to growing local sports and introduces younger enthusiasts through her SUP workshops and a weekly skateboard instruction from “groms” (young surfers!). Surfsup also provides SUP rentals for those who just want to try it out or for those cottaging in the area. Surfsup is the only store that rents surf boards on Lake Huron.
A proven success in Kincardine, Tarah now has two other locations, one in Goderich and one Lucknow.
Visit Surfsup Eco Shop in beautiful Lakeside Downtown Kincardine and catch a wave while you’re here!
